Decorating With Stone -part 2-
° STONES Limestone: This is a rock consisting mainly of calcium carbonate, chemical precipitation caused by the action of marine organisms and the accumulation of calcareous shells of plants or animals.
When it is very pure, it looks white, but usually appears tarnished by a large number of impurities, particularly clay and silica and to a lesser extent, with a large number of minerals. This means that, beyond the white base, has a variety of colors.
The limestone is used in a wide range of products from cement, construction, and fluxes in the steel industry and for the extraction of lime.
There are many types of limestone available in the market. Its appearance varies greatly depending on its origin. So does, obviously, price. But the origin is of great importance in this type of stone, as it largely determines how they see its texture and appearance.
In general, the stones that come from places like Portugal or France (Western Europe mostly) tend to be somewhat porous, which is not necessarily a problem, but that makes them perfect for certain applications, such as flooring, homes for fire and external.
In contrast, those stones that come from places like the U.S. or Israel tend to be much more massive and dense, thus the more easily used in construction and in almost all applications. This is, obviously, geographical issues and development of planet Earth.
Beyond what many believe, limestone is also a stone that can be used anywhere in our home, from the dining room to the bedroom, through the kitchen and even bathrooms.
Leaving aside what we said at first about the color white, the varieties most commonly find when we go to buy the business will be tones of the so-called “land” (essentially, shades of brown), very soft, with some streaks of color that flow through them. And they may also contain fossils or grains of contrasting tones that.
Limestone can be found in the form of slabs or tiles and is available in almost any industry trade. It is also very easy to work and the property of their colors are more muted than the granite. It can be found in the same finishes and textures and also it any more. It is a stone you might say that is new on the market, but is being distributed and very fast becoming popular, although it has no mass applications such as granite, but is considered a stone to use when the property owner specifically desired.
Its use in the construction and decoration are related more directly to architectural design and is very often found in homes of families with very good to excellent financial position.
