Use your Spare Room to De-Stress

Guest post written by Rob Stone

We live in a world that almost guarantees stress in one form or another. It could be forced upon us or something we choose but one thing is for sure is that we will all have to cope with it at some point. While we cannot necessarily remove the cause of stress we can learn to manage it better. One such solution is to use a spare room to create a stress free environment where you can get away from it.

There is a number of things you can do with the spare room to make it into your personal stress free room. Some like to simply sit and meditate in the middle of the floor. You will not need much furniture. For this it would be a good idea to add colour and in particular the seven colours of the rainbow as these are also the seven colours of our chakras which are the bodies energy centres. It can also be worth adding a variety of crystals as they can help to improve our bodies energy and vibrations. This all helps to heal our mind and bodies on a spiritual level.

For those who aren’t that spiritual you could turn a spare room into something a little more like a play room. You may be thinking of a kid playing in a room now and to be honest you wouldn’t be far off. Some have created rooms with large train set or somewhere where they can work on model making. It really is just about creating a space where the stresses of the world are forgotten. For this you may need a workstation to work at and maybe a table to put finished items. If you are going down the train set route then a large boarded area would be needed. It is now time to open up your imagination to what you want it for.

Other people create a room with a sofa or nice chair where they can sit and write. For this you will want less bright colours and a very comfortable chair to relax in. It would if you can be best to keep this room as quiet as possible so you can concentrate and let the creative power come through.

No matter what you use the room for you this is your special place where you will do things that make you happy. So it needs to be decorated to the highest standard. Nice carpet is a must and good glazed windows to keep the noise of the world out. Then the rest should e done up according to what you need the room for.

In a world where we slowly get more stressed we need a stress free place. With stress helping to cause more and more illnesses it is time we fight back and take control and responsibility for our own health. As a result we can use interior design and our own homes to become healthy happier and less stressed people. It is something we must all try and do.
